The Financial Executives Networking Group ("The FENG") provides senior executives an easy way to network exclusively with other senior financial executives and to share career transition experiences, job leads and workplace challenges.  The group began in 1991 with a few friends who met regularly in a library.  Over time, that FENG "circle of friends" has grown to over 36,000 members.

True to its original purpose, THE FENG has limited membership to senior financial executives, who have typically been CFO's, Controllers, Treasurers or Vice Presidents of Finance, Tax, M&A and in other financial disciplines.  Members have achieved six figure cash incomes, and usually have 15 to 20 years of work experience. A new member must be sponsored by a current member of The FENG. There are no dues or fees for membership.

The national group has experienced explosive growth in the past several years, under the leadership of Matt Bud, and now has over 36,000 members.  The national group provides the guiding operating philosophy and sets the tone for the local chapters.  It provides the essential services that define The FENG, including screening the resumes of all prospective members, maintaining a database of members and e-mailing an evening newsletter to all members.

All members of The FENG have access to the member database which provides biographical, industry and affiliation information on each member of the Group.   A nightly newsletter covers career issues and provides a forum for members to announce their career moves and to seek information and advice from other members dealing with technical and non-technical areas in their industries or functional areas.

An attachment to the nightly e-mail contains a listing of available senior level financial positions that have been posted by The FENG members themselves or recruiters that work with The FENG.  In addition there are Special Industry Groups ("SIGs") that have formed within The FENG through which members network directly with other members active in or interested in specific industries or functional areas; e.g. food industry, high tech, workouts, etc. through scheduled call-in conference calls and e-mails.

The Portland Chapter of The FENG operates under the same guiding principles as the national organization.  The Chapter has operated since its inception in 2003 when it was organized by Joe Connors.  Joe had been a member of the Boston Chapter of The FENG and recognized the potential benefits of the organization for senior financial professionals based in or connected to the greater Portland and Southwest Washington area and seeking career and networking opportunities.  The Portland Chapter operates informally and is not highly dependent on The FENG national group.  There are approximately 100 members in the Portland Chapter of FENG, including members who reside outside of the area.

Our local chapter holds meetings once each month, on the 2nd THURSDAY, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with the primary purpose to provide an opportunity for FENG members to meet each other, and form personal relationships.  Chapter meetings are devoted primarily to networking.  Guest speakers are frequently invited to address relevant issues.    Learn more about the Portland Chapter...
